17,400 Fewer Sony Employees: What Changed in Fiscal 2025

Sony’s 20-F attributes most of the decline to one event: the deconsolidation of Sony Financial Group Inc. (SFGI) after the partial spin-off of its financial services business.

Two smaller factors appear in the same filing. These are headcount cuts from structural reforms in the ET&S segment in Japan and business divestitures in the I&SS segment outside Japan.

That spin-off took effect on October 1, 2025. Sony kept a 16.40% stake, and SFGI became an affiliate instead of a consolidated subsidiary.

Financial Services listed about 14,300 employees on March 31, 2025. On March 31, 2026, the segment line carried no employees.
