Intel employed 85,100 people as of December 27, 2025, down from 108,900 twelve months earlier. That headcount figure comes from Intel’s own annual report and includes Mobileye and other subsidiaries. This post pulls every Intel employee statistic from company filings and workforce datasets, with the period attached to each one.
Intel Employee Statistics
How Many People Does Intel Employ?
Intel reports one headcount number that covers the core company plus Mobileye and other subsidiaries. The 2025 annual report puts it at 85,100 as of December 27, 2025.
The drop across 2025 was not all layoffs. Intel closed the sale of 51% of Altera on September 12, 2025 and stopped consolidating it from that date, which removes those staff from the count.
| Filing date | Total employees |
|---|---|
| December 28, 2024 | 108,900 |
| June 28, 2025 | 101,400 |
| September 27, 2025 | 88,400 |
| December 27, 2025 | 85,100 |

Intel Employee Statistics: Layoffs and Restructuring Charges
Intel started its 2025 Restructuring Plan in the second quarter of 2025. The company states the headcount initiatives reduced the core Intel workforce by roughly 15% by the end of fiscal 2025, measured against Q2 2025 ending headcount.
The 2025 charge was $2.2 billion. Severance made up most of it.
| Item | Period | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Total restructuring charges | FY2025 | $2.2 billion |
| Cash employee severance and related exit charges | FY2025 | $1.8 billion |
| Non-cash asset impairment charges | FY2025 | $474 million |
| Restructuring charges from the 2024 Plan | FY2024 | $2.8 billion |
| Residual 2024 Plan charges | FY2025 | $348 million |

The income statement line that carries these costs moved sharply in 2026. Restructuring and other charges reached $4,240 million in the first half of 2026, more than double the $2,046 million booked in the first half of 2025.
| Period | Restructuring and other charges |
|---|---|
| Q2 2025 | $1,890 million |
| Q2 2026 | $170 million |
| First half 2025 | $2,046 million |
| First half 2026 | $4,240 million |

Intel Workforce Composition by Function and Region
Intel does not publish a functional breakdown of its staff. Revelio Labs does, using its own workforce dataset, and estimated Intel’s global headcount at 84,629 as of March 2026.
Finance and operations is the largest group in that dataset. The bucket absorbs manufacturing and supply chain roles, which is why it outranks engineering at a company built around fabs.
| Functional group | Share of headcount |
|---|---|
| Finance and operations | 42.8% |
| Engineering | 30.9% |
| Sales and marketing | 26.3% |

North America accounts for 41.5% of Intel headcount in the same dataset, followed by South Asia and East Asia. A majority of Intel staff sit outside North America.
Intel Employee Statistics on Pay and Turnover
Intel discloses one workforce metric directly: undesired turnover, which counts regular employees who left voluntarily. It excludes contract employees, interns, retirements, divestiture-related exits, job eliminations and Mobileye staff.
That rate rose two percentage points in a year.
| Metric | 2024 | 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Undesired turnover rate | 5.9% | 7.9% |

Pay figures come from a separate dataset with a separate method. Revelio Labs puts Intel’s average salary at roughly $96,264, down 1.1% year over year in 2026, with regional medians ranging from $145,000 in North America to $29,000 in South Asia.

Intel also changed where people work. The 2025 annual report states employees are generally expected on site at least four days per week.
Intel Employee Statistics for R&D and Operating Spend
Research and development spending fell 16.4% in 2025 to $13.8 billion. Intel had held R&D above $16 billion for two straight years before that.
| Fiscal year | R&D expense |
|---|---|
| 2023 | $16.0 billion |
| 2024 | $16.5 billion |
| 2025 | $13.8 billion |

The 2026 quarters show the same direction. Combined R&D and marketing, general and administrative expenses were $4.5 billion in Q2 2026, down 6% from Q2 2025, and $9.0 billion for the first half, down 7%.
Against rising revenue, that spending now takes a much smaller slice.
| Period | R&D and MG&A as share of revenue |
|---|---|
| Q2 2025 | 37.5% |
| Q2 2026 | 28.2% |
| First half 2025 | 37.8% |
| First half 2026 | 30.1% |

Revenue did the rest of the work. Q2 2026 revenue reached $16,128 million against $12,859 million in Q2 2025, with Data Center and AI at $6,262 million and Intel Foundry at $5,765 million.

Share-based compensation held roughly flat. Intel recognised $1,307 million in the first half of 2026 against $1,348 million a year earlier. Accrued compensation and benefits stood at $3,748 million on June 27, 2026, down from $3,990 million at the end of 2025.
Is Intel Still Hiring?
Job postings point one way. Revelio Labs counted 1,822 active Intel job postings in 2026, a 12.5% decline from 2025.
New postings per month tell the longer story: 1,976 in 2023 against 866 in 2026 in the same dataset. Intel says it limited hiring in 2025 in line with its financial performance and cost-reduction measures.
