Gimkit cosmetics are visual items players earn by answering questions in 2D game modes. They cover character skins called Gims, particle trails, and lobby stickers. None of them affect scores or gameplay speed. Gimkit released the first cosmetics on April 12, 2022, and the system has grown steadily since then with Packs added in March 2025.
What Are Gimkit Cosmetics and How Do They Work?
Cosmetics work through XP earned in Gimkit 2D game modes. Every 1,000 XP moves a player up one level, and each level grants 100 GimBucks. Players spend GimBucks in the Item Shop or on Packs to collect cosmetic items.
Standard accounts cap at 15 level-ups per week, which equals 1,500 GimBucks. Season Ticket holders reach 20 level-ups weekly for 2,000 GimBucks. The Item Shop rotates every Wednesday at 2 PM EST. Unspent GimBucks carry between weeks and never expire.
Types of Gimkit Cosmetics Available
Gims (Character Skins)
Gims replace the default avatar in 2D modes. Some have custom animations, translucent designs, or alternate body shapes. Day One was the first Gim released on April 12, 2022.
Trails
Trails are particle effects that follow a Gim during 2D gameplay. Players buy them the same way as Gims, through the Item Shop or Packs.
Stickers
Stickers work only in the pre-game lobby. Players place up to 10 stickers on screen while waiting for a session to start. Adding an 11th removes the oldest automatically.
Gimkit Cosmetic Rarities and Prices
Every cosmetic belongs to one of five active rarity tiers. Rarity sets the Item Shop price and the sell-back value for duplicates from Packs.
| Rarity | Sell-Back Value (GimBucks) |
|---|---|
| Uncommon | 5 |
| Rare | 10 |
| Epic | 25 |
| Legendary | 100 |
| Mythic | 300 |
How to Earn Gimkit Cosmetics Through XP
Players earn 300 XP per minute in any 2D game mode, provided they answer a question during that minute. Eligible modes include Snowbrawl, Blastball, One Way Out, and Snowy Survival.
Gimkit Cosmetic Packs and Season Ticket
Packs launched on March 12, 2025, replacing the older collection-based shop structure. Each Pack costs 30 GimBucks and drops randomized cosmetics across rarities. Six permanent Packs are always available: Retro, Dog, Cat, Bug, Atlas, and Elemental. Seasonal Packs appear temporarily.
The Season Ticket costs $5 USD. It unlocks exclusive cosmetics not sold anywhere else and raises the weekly XP cap. Mythic Gims can only be obtained through Packs or the Season Ticket.
List of Mythic Gimkit Cosmetics
Ten Mythic Gims exist as of early 2026: Atlantis, Build-A-Bug, Sprite, The “Golden” Retriever, Custom Kitten, U.F.O, Everything, Hauntis, Reinkle The Gold-Nosed, and The Skull Armadana.
How to Disable Gimkit Cosmetics as a Teacher
Teachers who prefer a distraction-free setup can hide cosmetics during live sessions. Go to Settings, then Game Settings, and toggle Disable Cosmetics. This removes Gims, trails, and stickers from view and hides the Rewards button before and after games.
XP still accumulates when cosmetics are disabled, so student progression continues in the background. Teachers running Gimkit classes or Gimkit groups can adjust this per classroom. Before starting, see the guide on opening a Gimkit account.
FAQs
Do Gimkit cosmetics give gameplay advantages?
No. Gims, trails, and stickers are purely visual. Speed, scores, and game mechanics stay unaffected by any cosmetic item. They are appearance-only items.
How many GimBucks do you get per level?
Players earn 100 GimBucks per level-up. Each level requires 1,000 XP from 2D game modes. Standard accounts cap at 15 level-ups weekly. Season Ticket holders cap at 20.
Can you buy GimBucks with real money?
Not directly. GimBucks come from gameplay only. The Season Ticket at $5 USD unlocks exclusive cosmetics and raises the weekly XP cap, but it does not sell GimBucks.
What happens to cosmetics over summer break?
XP earning pauses from mid-June until the school year resumes. Cosmetics already in the Locker remain fully usable during summer. Players cannot unlock new items until the new school year.
When does the Gimkit Item Shop refresh?
The Item Shop rotates every Wednesday at 2 PM EST. Weekly XP limits and level progression reset at the same time. Unspent GimBucks carry over between weeks.
