Best companies to work for in the Netherlands in 2026, with employer rankings, workplace preferences, pay, and work-life statistics.

Three programmes rank Dutch employers every year, and they rarely agree. Randstad polls the public, Great Place To Work polls staff, Top Employers Institute audits HR paperwork. Put the 2026 results side by side and almost no company appears twice. This guide sets out who won each list, what Dutch workers actually say they want, and what CBS pay and workload data show underneath the best companies to work for in Netherlands.

Which Companies Rank as the Best Companies to Work For in Netherlands in 2026?

Kantar surveyed 13,430 working, studying and job-seeking Dutch people aged 18 to 67 in January 2026 on the 150 largest Dutch employers. ASML took the private-sector title, TNO the public and non-profit one.

High tech was again rated the most attractive private sector. Four of the five public-sector winners are hospitals, a university or a research institute.

Randstad rates ASML highly on advanced technology, career development and terms of employment, and TNO on reputation and interesting work. Randstad notes that salary and secondary benefits barely register as a top driver in the public sector, unlike the private one. Broader pay expectations show up in future of work statistics.

What Do Dutch Employees Want From an Employer?

Atmosphere leads by 8 points over work-life balance and by 22 points over pay. Salary ranks fourth. Randstad’s 2026 survey also found that 62.5% of employees have confidence in the future outlook of their organisation.

Interesting work rose 4 points and work-life balance 6 points. Trials of shorter weeks elsewhere have measured the same pull, as the four-day workweek research shows, and flexibility drives similar numbers in US hybrid work data.

Best Companies to Work For in Netherlands by Company Size

Great Place To Work Nederland published its 24th Dutch list in June 2026: 50 employers, ranked in four size bands from the Trust Index employee survey, with a Culture Audit also counting for large organisations. Small and mid-sized employers take 30 of the 50 places.

None of Randstad’s private-sector top five appears anywhere on this list, which is what happens when one programme surveys perception of the 150 biggest employers and the other surveys staff at organisations from 20 people upward.

Great Place To Work reported gaps against the Dutch benchmark at its June 2026 awards: 89% of Best Workplaces staff say they adapt well to change against 66% elsewhere, 88% say their work matters against 59%, and 91% report pride in their organisation against 63%. A separate Best Workplaces for Women assessment found that of 416 organisations taking the Trust Index survey, 73 met the gender criteria, or 18%. Stryker won the large category on that list too.

How Many Dutch Companies Are Certified Top Employers?

Top Employers Institute announced its 2026 certifications on 16 January 2026. This is an audit of HR practice across six domains, drawn from the institute’s HR Best Practices Survey, not a vote by employees. The Dutch count fell while the global programme grew.

The six Dutch first-timers in 2026 are Smurfit Westrock NL, Stichd, ADP Nederland, NN Insurance Eurasia, Asito and Amazon Netherlands. Stichd also holds Global Top Employer status. Because the certification measures documented HR practice, names such as De Nederlandsche Bank, JYSK Nederland and Odido hold it without appearing on either public ranking.

Do the Best Companies to Work For in Netherlands Pay More?

Collectively agreed wages per hour, including special payments, rose 4.3% in the second quarter of 2026 against a year earlier. Contractual labour costs rose 4.2%. The provisional quarterly figure covers 95% of the collective agreements in the statistic, and about three quarters of Dutch employees fall under one.

The government cao sector raised pay 1.1 points slower than private companies. That sector is defined by collective agreement, not by Randstad’s public and non-profit category, so the two groupings do not line up. For 2025 as a whole, CBS puts negotiated wage growth at 5.0%, with the largest industry increase in information and communication at 7.4% and the smallest in renting and trading of real estate at 3.2%.

Hours Matter More Than Rates Here

Pay comparisons across countries break down on Dutch working hours. Eurostat recorded 38.6% of employed people in the Netherlands working part-time in 2024, against an EU figure of 17.1%, and 60.5% among Dutch women.

Source: Eurostat, EU Labour Force Survey, part-time share of employed people, 2024

The average actual working week in the Netherlands ran to 31.9 hours in 2025, the shortest in the EU, against an EU average of 35.9 hours. Dutch employment is high at the same time: 83.4% of people aged 20 to 64 were employed in 2025, second only to Malta at 83.6%. Any read across to American telework rates or home-working output research has to account for that hours gap first.

Workload and Job Satisfaction Behind the Best Companies to Work For in Netherlands

TNO and CBS ran the 21st National Working Conditions Survey at the end of 2025, with more than 53,000 employees responding. In 2025, 15% of employees held a stressful job and 21% reported burn-out complaints, up from 19% in 2023 and 13% a decade earlier.

Sickness absence stood at 4.9% in 2025, near flat against 2024. More than 22% of employees who called in sick said the absence was wholly or partly work-related, naming high workload and infection at work most often. Just over a third of employees, 37%, say further measures are needed on workload and work stress, with that view strongest in education and healthcare. The same complaint pattern shows up in international burnout survey data.

Volume of work alone does not create a stressful job. Autonomy is the second variable, and the two split apart by occupation.

Source: CBS and TNO, National Working Conditions Survey 2025; employees aged 15 to 75

Managers report the heaviest load at 58.8% and the highest autonomy at 84.9%. Health and welfare staff sit at 44.9% and 48.4%, the combination that maps onto stress. Transport and logistics workers report the lowest autonomy at 41.7%. Across all employees, 39.9% say they often or always have a great deal of work and 60.2% say they regularly decide how to do it.

Job satisfaction stays high regardless: 78.6% of Dutch employees were satisfied or very satisfied with their work in 2025, ranging from 83.7% in agricultural occupations to 74.0% in creative and linguistic ones. Even so, 26% took action during 2025 to find different work. Isolation is a separate risk that workplace loneliness research tracks, and office-attendance policy shifts appear in return-to-office data.
